Why was my image upload rejected? A practical checklist

“Invalid image” can describe several unrelated failures. Change one property at a time and keep the original so you can identify what actually solved the problem.

Prepared by Readyvio from implemented and automated-tested tool behavior. Published 12 September 2026; last reviewed 12 September 2026.

Read the complete error and current instructions

Start with the receiving service, not a generic converter. Record its accepted formats, maximum bytes, minimum or exact dimensions, aspect ratio, filename rules, and any document-specific visual requirements. Rules can change, and Readyvio is not the authority that receives your file.

If the portal gives a specific code or message, preserve it. A size error should not be treated as a format error, and repeated conversions can reduce quality without addressing the actual cause.

Check properties in a stable order

First confirm that the file opens normally. Then check its real format, final byte count, and pixel dimensions. A filename ending in .jpg does not prove its encoded contents are JPEG. Readyvio validates supported file signatures before browser decoding and reports verified outputs after processing.

If format and technical limits pass, inspect visible composition, orientation, text clarity, and document edges. Some portals also apply their own security scanning or account rules that a local tool cannot reproduce.

Troubleshooting sequence

Work from the least destructive check toward transformations.

  • Open the original and make a separate working copy.
  • Confirm the required format and convert only if needed.
  • Verify exact dimensions or crop to the required aspect ratio.
  • Compress below the maximum byte count and inspect the result.
  • Use a simple filename if the destination documents naming restrictions.
  • If a verified file is still rejected, contact the receiving service with the error—never send identity documents to Readyvio.

Related Readyvio tools

  • Prepare an application photo — Crop to exact pixels, fit a maximum KB, and check tested metadata fields in one local workflow.
  • Compress image to a maximum KB — Choose any decimal KB ceiling and verify the final output bytes.
  • Resize image to exact pixels — Set an exact output width and height, then verify both dimensions.
  • Crop image to exact size — Crop around a chosen focal position and export exact pixel dimensions.
  • Convert JPG to PNG — Convert a JPG locally while keeping its current pixel dimensions.
  • Convert PNG to JPG — Choose the background used for transparent areas before conversion.

Always follow the receiving service’s current official requirements. Readyvio verifies technical outputs but does not guarantee acceptance.
