Image metadata privacy: inspect first, remove carefully
A photo can contain information that is not visible in its pixels. Inspecting metadata before sharing helps you make a deliberate privacy decision without pretending that one scanner recognizes every possible field.

What ordinary metadata may contain
EXIF, GPS, IPTC, and XMP fields can describe capture time, device model, location, author, copyright, software, or editing history. Not every image contains these fields, and different programs preserve or rename them differently.
Metadata is separate from visible content. Removing coordinates does not hide a street sign, face, badge, document number, reflection, or other identifying detail shown in the pixels.
Viewing and removing are different operations
Readyvio’s viewer reports supported fields without uploading the selected file. The removal tool decodes the pixels, creates a new JPEG, and scans the result for a defined set of sensitive field names. Re-encoding usually strips common containers but can change quality, transparency, and color behavior.
“No tested fields detected” means exactly that: the defined checks found none. It is not a promise about unknown proprietary structures, steganography, or visible private information.
Privacy review checklist
Treat metadata removal as one part of a broader sharing review.
- Keep the original in a private location.
- Inspect supported metadata and note any location, time, device, or author fields.
- Create a scrubbed copy and require the tested-field verification to pass.
- Open the copy and check quality, orientation, transparency changes, and visible identifiers.
- Share only the new copy, using a destination and account you trust.
